ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINTS AT LOGICDATA: TODAY, TOMORROW, FOREVER.

2nd October 2024

At LOGICDATA, we have spent decades developing mechatronic technology that improves the lives of customers all around the world: building traditions of innovation, quality, and exceptional service. However, as industry leaders, we understand that our true legacy will be defined by more than just our products and systems: it will be our contribution to a green, sustainable future for generations to come.

We believe that adopting sustainable practices not only enhances the quality of our products, but also contributes to a healthier planet. In this blog post, we’re excited to share our journey towards sustainability and the initiatives we’ve undertaken to minimize our environmental footprint. Developing a Better Future:
Why Is Sustainability Important?

At the core of our drive toward sustainability is our belief that “going green” is simply the right thing to do. By minimizing our environmental footprint, we fulfill our responsibility to future generations: creating a healthier, greener world around us.

However, while sustainability lies at the core of our values, embracing environmentally-friendly practices isn’t just altruistic; it’s savvy business sense. Stefan Lukas, Division Manager Business Unit HAT at LOGICDATA explains a virtuous cycle:

The benefits of sustainability for LOGICDATA are real. By investing in eco-friendly manufacturing, responsible sourcing, and renewable energy, we not only reduce emissions, but costs too. Likewise, by creating more-efficient products for our customers, we save them shipping and energy costs with every unit they order. Sustainability isn’t just a choice for LOGICDATA; it’s a cornerstone of our success and a major differentiator for us.

The LOGICDATA HQ: Sustainability Starts at Home

Leaving green footprints is a team effort: which is why we’re setting an example to our customers, suppliers, and the local community through environmental initiatives at the LOGICDATA HQ in Austria. While sustainability has been ingrained in our operations for many years, we’re continually looking for new ways to improve, and to invest in the best technology for the job.

Starting in the parking lot, transitioning to electric vehicle models for our fleet of company vehicles – as well as installing charge points for employees’ own cars – reduces fossil fuel usage and carbon emissions while promoting sustainability across our company.

Better yet, with a third of our electricity sourced from in-house solar panels, we’re becoming self-sustainable. The remaining two thirds is delivered from renewable energy sources. For heating, by utilizing woodchip biomass, and by implementing optimized energy controls in our modern building, we further reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

However, there are some less obvious – but equally important – initiatives too. For example, we implement proactive measures to conserve energy, saving 14 mWh annually through forced shutdowns of electrical devices such as computers and printers. This not only saves money, but also contributes to our overall sustainability efforts. Furthermore, our kitchen staff source local food to minimize delivery emissions, while every employee takes responsibility for waste separation, fostering a culture of sustainability throughout the company.

With our environmental footprints at LOGICDATA HQ, we can set a really positive example for our customers, and the world around us – shaping a brighter, greener future for all. Overall, you get the impression that everyone at the company really cares about their environment, which inspires us to come to this beautiful office and do our best work.

Improving Products, Increasing Efficiency

At LOGICDATA, our dedication to sustainability extends beyond day-to-day operations to the very core of our product development. The creation of sustainable mechatronic products and systems is an enormous responsibility. If we do not carefully manage raw material usage, emissions from transportation, and the usage of plastics and other non-biodegradable materials, the environmental footprint from our systems could spiral out of control.

Fortunately, we’re committed to minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency. Our goal is to eliminate single-use plastics from all our products, which is why we’re prioritizing reusable bulk packaging for wholesale customers. Likewise, we’ve reduced plastic packaging in end customer products to less than 2% – a benchmark figure in our industry.

Moreover, our focus on product efficiency is self-evident. The efficiency of our table system components has increased by over 2000% since 2010 and by over 100% since 2015 through iterative product development and a number of groundbreaking technical innovations. With products that require negligible power consumption in standby mode and increasingly less power to operate, we’re not just improving our products – we’re increasing efficiency and reducing environmental impact for end customers too.

At LOGICDATA, sustainability is ingrained in every aspect of our product development process. By prioritizing initiatives that minimize waste and maximize efficiency, we ensure that our customers receive first-class mechatronic products that don’t cost the earth.

Guiding Principles: From Standards to Data-Based Decision Making.

Unfortunately, industry worldwide is awash with cynical, empty promises on sustainability that are intended to deceive customers. That’s why at LOGICDATA, we adhere to stringent standards and directives – verified by trusted third-party regulators – to guide our sustainability initiatives. We follow internationally recognized benchmarks such as ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015, ensuring that our environmental management systems meet the highest industry standards.

Additionally, we comply with Ecoprofit regulations, embracing sustainable practices that minimize our ecological footprint. By adhering to these standards, we not only fulfill our commitment to sustainability, but also ensure that our operations align with globally accepted best practices.

Furthermore, we understand the importance of data and technology in our environmental decision-making process. With the landscape of sustainability continually evolving, we’re committed to implementing standardized assessment methods to inform our future data-based decisions by 2025. Gregor Weinzettl, Head of Quality at LOGICDATA explains the value of a more structured decision-making process.

By leveraging cutting-edge assessment techniques, we can anticipate emerging environmental challenges and proactively develop strategies to address them. This forward-thinking approach allows us to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring that our environmental initiatives remain effective and impactful.

As we chart the course for minimizing the environmental footprints at LOGICDATA, our vision extends beyond mere compliance to proactive engagement with global environmental imperatives. In line with the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Sustainable Development Group goals, we’ll maintain our efforts in reducing emissions, eliminating toxic substances from all processes, and transitioning toward a circular economy.

Through collaboration with stakeholders, investment in cutting-edge technologies, and a company-wide commitment to continuous improvement, we will pave the way towards a future where the pursuit of premium mechatronic technology leaves a positive imprint on the planet.
